History

The Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering "Rubin" originates from the Construction Commission for Submarines established in 1901 for submarine design, construction supervision and trials.

The enterprise is inseparably linked with the history of underwater shipbuilding in Russia. A small group of engineers at the beginning, it has evolved into the largest diversified engineering company.

Until the 1990s, Rubin's entire efforts were focused on the production of combat submarines for various purposes. More than 80% of submarines in the Soviet and Russian Navy, including several generations of strategic missile submarines have been constructed to the designs by Rubin.

In the mid-1990s, Rubin's management diversified the company activities to maintain and effectively use the available creative potential of the personnel. Retaining its positions as the largest submarine design company in Russia, Rubin has gained the experience in designing civil advanced-technology objects.
