Group of engineers of Rubin Design Bureau of the United Shipbuilding Corporation has completed professional development programme "Artificial Intelligence for Qualified Customers". Half-year course for designers was held by the experts of National Research University ITMO. The management of the Bureau has made it aim to educate the employees to set tasks while developing AI systems. Representatives of all Rubin design and production departments have been educated according to the programme.
During the lectures and practical exercises the designers got wind of modern approaches and technologies of AI, methods of data origination and AI modelling, opportunities of large language models and generative AI; studied computer vision systems, natural language and speech processing, decision support.
AI technologies can be applied in design works abiding industrial and information security principles, and can be integrated into submarine systems. That is the reason to widely involve the Bureau employees into research of potential for AI use.
Rubin has already made several steps in integration of AI technologies in its industrial processes. Thus, IT-specialists of the Bureau have developed hardware and software system for construction engineering support using alternate and mixed reality technologies. Technology of "Computer Vision" was applied in the System to make digital map of real world and organization of control of the System using motion of hands.
AI is the most efficient way for large quantities of data processing. Therefore, Rubin integrates the elements of Artificial Intelligence in control systems of autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles (AUUVs). This way AUUVs are capable of processing of data received by sonar systems, photo- and video cameras. Application of AI elements allows separating and identifying individual objects in sonar photo&video images. This is particularly relevant, when AUUV works under conditions of low light, water muddiness and obstacles in front of lens. Computer Vision algorithms are integrated in safety precautions systems of AUUV movement. Expert system of information support of robot operators are being developed - in situations, when human participation is required, it will quickly receive all the required information for decision-making. Rubin is working on development of adaptive algorithms for control of single and multiple unmanned vehicles.
