Mozhaisk submarine commissioned by Russian Pacific Fleet

The ceremony of raising the Russian naval ensign and commissioning by the Russian Navy the Mozhaisk submarine has taken place today at the Admiralty shipyards. Mozhaisk is the firth boat in a batch of submarines developed by Rubin Design Bureau and together with her sister boats is destined for the Pacific Fleet.

Rubin's specialists in cooperation with the shipyard and the Regular State Acceptance Commission ensured the successful completion of the trials. All declared parameters of the submarine found their proof.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Nikolay Evmenov said: "One more combat unit joins the submarine forces of the Pacific Fleet today. The submarines of this Project are the platforms for the well-proven long-range precision weaponry. I express my gratitude to the designers and shipbuilders who invested their effort making this vessel. I hope the crew to cover long miles, as I am confident in your competence." The Admiral wished the crew fair winds and following seas.

Vladimir Korolev, the United Shipbuilding Corporation CEO's Counsellor in his turn noted that Rubin Design Bureau "have modernized one more submarine in the class for serving the whole life cycle with maximum efficiency. Commissioning by the contract date confirms once more that the Admiralty shipyards, being the main facility for the conventional submarine construction, is the leader in the Russian defense procurement for the Navy," he said.

The keel-laying ceremony of Mozhaisk submarine took place August 23, 2021; the boat was launched April 27, 2023. From 2019, every year the Russian Navy has been commissioning one submarine of the batch. Fast-paced construction is ensured by well-coordinated work of the designer, the shipyard and carefully orchestrated team of suppliers. Rubin's specialists provide supervision and in-service support for the ships of the Navy.

Mozhaisk is the 31st submarine of the Pr. 636. All ships of the class have been delivered to customers within the contractual timelines. Following the requirements of the Russian Navy, Project 636 has undergone extensive upgrading that enhanced submarine's stealth, combat effectiveness, detection capabilities and operating safety.
