Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Has Approved Rubin Design Bureau’s Series Manufacture of Man-Portable Vehicles

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping has approved the technical documentation for autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle Amulet-S and remotely operated vehicle Talisman-S (letter S means "series") for series manufacture. According to Register's conclusion, the documentation meets the requirements of rules for classification and construction of unmanned underwater vehicles.

Rubin is the first company whose designs of vehicles have been classified as per the new rules. Russian Maritime Register has developed these rules with the involvement of design bureaus of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, namely Rubin and St. Petersburg Marine Engineering Bureau Malachite.

Register has also certified Rubin's manufacturing, since the bureau does not only design the marine robots, but also constructs those and carries out testing. Rubin develops its robotic underwater systems in a fully-digital environment, which speeds up calculations, reduces concept-to-delivery time and makes it possible to avoid nearly all rejects during manufacture and assembly of the vehicle.

Man-portable vehicles Amulet-S and Talisman-S are designed for underwater search and inspection at depths up to 70 and 50 metres respectively. They are featured by small size and weight. These vehicles are easy-to-use, they can be deployed from any vessel and from shore and can operate up to 4-6 hours. Amulet-S has modular architecture, which makes it possible to install additional equipment at customer's request.

In 2021 prototypes of Amulet-S and Talisman-S underwent trials in the Arctic Region which is one of the key regions for employment of robotic systems. They withstood temperature difference of more than 40 degrees when immersing into water and then returning on ice. These man-portable vehicles performed search of underwater objects and ice openings and mapping under ice cover and under the conditions of ice brash.

By receiving the Register's approval on technical documentation and manufacturing, Rubin has proven readiness to series construction of these man-portable robots.
