The Shtokman gas condensate field is located in the Barents Sea 610 km from Murmansk. In world practice, no facilities have ever been used in the environmental conditions like those typical for the field.
The first studies for the Shtokman field platform were done by Rubin in late 1980s. Since 2008, after the developing consortium was made by the Gazprom, Total (France) and StatoilHydro (Norway), Rubin has been involved in the document development for the technical tender to design and build a platform for Phase I field development. By now, the final decision was made to select a floating ice-resistant production facility of a ship type, which in the event of an ice threat (from icebergs or heavy ice fields) can be disconnected from the subsea production system. The works were done in cooperation with Doris Engineering (France); the same team produced the project documents to be submitted to the Russian authorities.
