Floating Gate for Navigation Pass

Segmented floating gates were designed for C-1 Navigation Pass within Saint-Petersburg Flood Prevention Facility Complex. One of the city's grand-scale construction projects, the barrier spans 25 km of dams, water control facilities and shipping passes.

The key segment in the whole structure, C-1 navigation pass is the most sophisticated engineering element.

Floating gate project implied extensive research with model trials done at the Vedeneev VNIIG and Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, as well as computation modelling in cooperation with St Petersburg Polytechnical University and Krylov SRI.

Rubin supervised the construction of the floating gates and run trials of the whole structure and individual systems. loating gate system to stop water flowing back to the Neva Bay during floods was commissioned in 2011.
